Screams Behind My Eyes

A smile on the outside – chaos within.
A heavy, emotional rock song about hiding pain behind a calm façade. The world sees peace, but inside, everything is breaking.

Screams Behind My Eyes

Lyrics:

Verse 1
In this tiny room, I scream but no one hears
Echoes bounce back, confirming all my fears
Screams behind my eyes — where do I run?
Trapped in the dark, hiding from the sun

Verse 2
Windows sealed tight, darkness closing in
The voices won't stop — they're under my skin
Screams behind my eyes — begging to break
Walls press in, more than I can take

Chorus
Screams behind my eyes, I’m barely alive
Smiling outside, but burning inside
Screams behind my eyes, I'm breaking again
Drowning in silence, lost in the pain

Verse 3
Torn between the dream and what is real
Can’t trust the ground or the way I feel
Screams behind my eyes — twisting my mind
I search for peace I’ll never find

Chorus
Screams behind my eyes, I’m barely alive
Smiling outside, but burning inside
Screams behind my eyes, I'm breaking again
Drowning in silence, lost in the pain

Solo

Chorus
Screams behind my eyes, I’m ready to burst
Trapped in this body, feeling the worst
Screams behind my eyes, they tear me apart
Wishing someone could just hear my heart

Story behind the song:

Screams Behind My Eyes is about the prison of the mind – the place where the loudest screams are never heard. On the surface, everything looks calm, even normal. A smile covers the face, routines carry on, but inside there is chaos: walls closing in, voices that never stop, and a silent battle no one else can see.

The lyrics tell this story: sealed rooms, pressing walls, the desperate cry for release that echoes only inward. It is not just about pain, but about the unbearable contrast between what the world sees – a functioning person – and what is hidden behind the eyes.

For me, this song comes from a very real place. As a child, I lost my parents and grew up in a home marked by chaos and abuse. I learned to create an outer personality – a mask that could survive, smile, and appear strong – while inside I was screaming for help. My mind protected me, but in doing so it also locked me in a nightmare that lasted for decades. PTSD kept me prisoner in silence, until I finally found help 25 years later.

The imagery in the song is raw: darkness closing in, screams with no voice, the tension between the smile outside and the torment inside. It is not just metaphor, but memory – a reflection of what it means to carry pain unseen.

The visual world mirrors this. The image for Screams Behind My Eyes shows a man sitting in a corner, head tilted back, forcing a smile, while around him monstrous faces press through the walls – grotesque, silent, and relentless. They are not real, yet they surround him, embodying the chaos within.

This is the essence of the track: the distance between appearance and reality, the life lived behind closed walls, and the silent screams that never find a voice. A smile on the outside – chaos within.
