ETHER DRIFT

Everything I Lost in Her
A song of first love – all-consuming, unforgettable – and the emptiness it leaves behind.
When the flame dies, only shadows remain.

Lyrics:
Verse 1
I lost my smile, the sunshine in my eyes
Now every day feels like a cold, dark prize
Love was my compass, now I'm adrift at sea
Without her, the world's just a bitter lie
Verse 2
Trust was my anchor, but it slipped away
In her arms, I found a broken, shattered ray
Happiness was our home, now just a shadow
Without her, I'm just a ghost, too tired to follow
Chorus
Everything I lost in her, now I can't recall
The memories fade, like tears in morning's pale light
I try to hold on, but it's all slipping away
Every moment feels like a distant, fading day
Riff
Bridge
I reach for her hand, but it's empty and cold
Her laughter echoes, but I'm standing alone
I try to find her, but she's just a memory
In my dreams, I see her, but she's just a story
Riff
Verse 3
I lost my voice, the words that used to flow
Now I'm just a whisper, in the wind's soft glow
My heart's a hollow, where love used to reside
Without her, I'm just a man, left to hide
Verse 4
She was my future, now it's just a past
A dream that's shattered, a story that's last
I search for meaning, but it's hard to find
Without her, every thought feels worn and dim
Chorus
Everything I lost in her, now I can't recall
The memories fade, like tears in morning's pale light
I try to hold on, but it's all slipping away
Every moment feels like a distant, fading day
Chorus
Everything I lost in her, now I can't recall
The memories fade, like tears in morning's pale light
I try to hold on, but it's all slipping away
Every moment feels like a distant, fading day
[Riff]
Outro
I whisper her name, but it fades like the sky
The fire is gone, and so am I
Story behind the song:
This track is about first love – the all-consuming, unforgettable feeling that leaves its mark forever, and the emptiness that appears when it suddenly vanishes. The song describes how you lose more than just a relationship: you lose direction, language, warmth, and a part of yourself.
For me, the lyrics carry something deeper. When I lost my parents as a child, I built a natural shield – an outer personality that could protect me from pain. Only later did I learn that this was an early sign of PTSD: my mind created an “other” version of myself, not a split personality, but a part without emotions that could endure the world. On the outside, everything looked normal, but inside, the grief was locked away. That is why the loss of my first love was not just a youthful heartbreak – it struck directly against that inner wall and amplified everything I was already carrying.
The image that accompanies the song reflects exactly this: a shadow of what once was, a presence that has turned into absence. A man stands facing the ocean and sunset, while she exists only as a memory, almost dissolving into the air. That is what the song is – a meeting of light and darkness, love and loss, life and echo.
